Only 7,295 1854-C quarter eagles were produced. This is a scarce coin in any grade with an estimated total population of 80-90. Over three quarters of the known examples grade Extremely Fine or lower. There are approximately 14-16 known in About Uncirculated plus another five in Mint State. This is not generally a well struck issue. The centers are nearly always weak and many pieces have very weak detail on the head of the eagle. The surfaces are often found with heavy abrasions and many coins show roughness as well. The luster is often an unappealing grainy texture and it is hard to locate coins with original color as most have been cleaned at one time.
