The 1850-C is one of the more available Charlotte quarter eagles from the 1850's. However, it is still considered a very scarce coin, especially in higher grades. Approximately 95-105 are known with many of these grading Very Fine to Extremely Fine. In About Uncirculated, the 1850-C is very rare with just 15-18 known. There are currently two pieces accounted for in Mint State and both of these are in private collections. The strike seen on many pieces is below average and the surfaces are often very heavily marked. On high grade coins, the luster and color tends to be pleasing but many have been cleaned at one time. There are two significant die varieties known. One employs the same reverse as that seen on the 1849-C while the other has a reverse used only in 1850.
